Marla Rosner and Associates, a Bay Area management consulting and training firm, is broadening its offerings to professionals to include Cogmed Working Memory Training. Cogmed Pro is designed to help professionals sustainably improve focus by strengthening their working memory using a proven software program that can be completed at their desks at home or work. Working memory - the ability to keep information in mind for brief periods of time - is closely linked to fluid intelligence and is crucial for professional success. Neuroscientists have called working memory the brain’s search engine, because it is what allows us to retrieve information at a moment’s notice. The Cogmed program enables those who are bogged down by the daily onslaught of information to better manage time, prioritize activities, and complete tasks.
“I think there are many thousands of workers who are aware of their own memory challenges in the workplace and are deeply concerned about maintaining their performance - even more so in this economy,” says Rosner. “Most people are not aware that current research has demonstrated that working memory is not ‘set’ but is ‘plastic’; like a muscle, it can be improved through exercise.” Indicators of working memory deficits include difficulty dealing with more than one task at a time, difficulty concentrating under pressure, and difficulty remembering client’s names after meeting them. Rosner has had first-hand experience with memory strain. “I’ve personally been challenged in these areas and was really thrilled to find a research-based program. Cogmed Pro has allowed me to take concrete action to enhance my own on-the-job focus, which is what has inspired me to share it with clients.”
Only select professionals are qualified by Cogmed to coach program users. Rosner is a Cogmed Qualified Coach, and affiliated with the psychology practice of Dr. David Green, a Cogmed Quality Assurance Provider based in Fairfield, California. Cogmed stands out in the arena of working memory training, in that every user has the support and direction of a coach with whom he or she talks on a weekly basis.
